Pikasa, using its media monitoring platform Analytics.live, conducted a six-month analysis of how the airline industry is represented in the news in Kosovo, focusing on airlines that fly from Pristina International Airport.
The results show that the top five most mentioned airlines make up 84.5% of all airline-related news, meaning most media coverage is concentrated on just a few major players. Interestingly, the first two of these top five are low-cost carriers, showing how much influence and visibility budget airlines have in Kosovo’s media landscape. These include airlines like Wizz Air and easyJet, which offer affordable flights to key European cities such as Memmingen, London, Basel, Vienna, Milan, and Berlin.
Top Airlines in the Media

Besides identifying which airlines are most mentioned, Pikasa also examined what the media is actually discussing about them.
The content was grouped into six main themes.
What the Media Covers

The biggest share of the coverage, 44.4%, focuses on airline routes. Almost half of the news is about where the airlines are flying to, including announcements of new routes, cancellations, or future expansion. For instance, media reports highlight new direct flights from Pristina to Paris, as well as increased connectivity to countries like Germany, Switzerland, and Turkey. This shows that people in Kosovo are highly interested in travel opportunities and how easily they can reach destinations across Europe.
The second most covered topic is flight availability, making up 21% of the news. This includes stories about how frequently flights are running, how many seats are offered, and whether airlines are meeting the travel demand, especially during the busy summer season. News articles also cover changes in flight schedules and capacity increases.
Coming next is passenger services, which appear in 12.1% of the articles. These stories focus on the travel experience itself — from check-in options and baggage handling to onboard services and customer care. The media often compares how different airlines treat passengers, especially between low-cost and traditional carriers.
Ticket pricing is another important topic, taking up 10.1% of the coverage. This includes news on how much tickets cost, fare promotions, and changes in pricing strategy. Media attention is often placed on how affordable flights are for travelers from Kosovo, particularly when flying to popular destinations like Germany, Switzerland, and the Nordic countries.
Regulations, which account for 9.7% of the coverage, relate to government rules, aviation agreements, and safety standards. These news items explain how decisions from local or international authorities can affect airline operations, such as which airlines are allowed to fly certain routes or what compliance is needed under European Union aviation law.
Finally, modernization makes up 2.7% of the news content. Though this is the smallest category, it includes important updates on the airline industry’s progress, such as upgrading aircraft, improving airport infrastructure at Pristina, and introducing new technologies for smoother travel processes.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the media in Kosovo is actively covering different aspects of the airline industry, especially focusing on where people can fly and how easily they can travel. Low-cost airlines are receiving the most attention, and routes to major European cities remain a key focus in both airline operations and media narratives. This growing coverage reflects the increasing importance of air travel in connecting Kosovo with the rest of Europe.
